Going Forward

Two particular meetings today inspired my soul about going forward. One was a recap meeting about the Connections 07 feedback. The question in these sessions is, "What is God saying to TSA in this territory?" Some real direction is beginning to emerge. we have a bright and exciting future. Let's give Him our best in the process.

The second meeting was with a married couple who are serving God with integrity and joy. They very much represent our future and will undoubtedly be an important team in the going forward of our movement.

Let's go for it.

Jeremiah 29:11 (MSG)
11 I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

I've noticed that most envangelism is directed towards Christians.

Does that inspire you?

Interesting that the SA has an association with the AFL - an organisation that is soft on drugs and implicitly supports a drug culture within its member clubs.

Why associate with evil?

A contradiction of comments... you say that most evangelism is directed to Christians (which I don't see in TSA) and then you question why we are involved in an industry where a small amount of people don't always live perfect lives (but then again who does)!

Sporting evangelism is an amazing opportunity to build relationships with people of different backgrounds and life situations. We may not always agree with the choices of individuals but that does not mean we can't be 'Jesus' to them.. not literally obviously, but we can reflect His nature and love through our words and actions. THAT is evangelism!

If we are wanting people to evangelise to non-Christians it is important that we don't question the areas they might share the gospel. Praise God for those who minister to prostitutes, drug-users, street children, alcoholics, gamblers. THAT is evangelism and God is using those ministries and changing the lives of so many!

God is changing the lives of who? How many? Where?

I believe Jesus associated with people whom others considered as evil - eg. Zaccheus - and lives were changed as a result! If we don't associate with these people, whom some consider as evil, (I consider them as persons needing to hear the Good News) then how will they hear the Good News of the Gospel? That is real evangelism - sharing the Good News with others and let God be the judge as to whether they are good or evil!

I read this blog fairly regularly and find it encouraging, and enjoy seeing the feedback that comes in.

David, you seem very angry with christianity or perhaps the Army particularly.... I can only hope you are trying to work through that rather than just letting your anger build and build.

Nobody's perfect. I've struggled with my faith for a few years now and know how tempting it can be just to criticise and judge.

Commissioner Knaggs is a very sincere man, who has a joyful heart. Surely that is allowed?

My recent experiences with churches are that they are wary of strangers. Consequently, most of their members are unwilling to engage in discussion with outsiders. They see no need, or cannot offer, rational explanations for what and why they believe. Those that are willing to talk have an obvious agenda - notch up a conversion and move on. Hello, but I'm a person, too.

I have increasingly thought that Christianity is an irrational, baseless belief system. These recent experiences with Christians and churches have done nothing to change that.

I could make other comments, but I don't really think that people think an outsider's view point has any validity. After all, according to Hilly, I'm just an angry person, who might or might not be "working through" (is that psycho-babble or Christianese talk?) various "issues".

This investigation of the world of churches must come to an end sooner, rather than later.

Goodbye.

David,
I'm praying for you. The thing that is intangible to an unbeliever and only available as far as I know to a believer is the indwelling presence of a living God. If you ask Comm Jim here, he'll tell you, I had more questions than a math text book. And spent almost 45 years seeking truth. I've been following your writings here. You have a voracious and keen mind, full of intelligence and knowledge. I wish more Christians would think as much. Unfortunately for the intellect but fortunate for the ignorant and childlike, the truth is not a study in rational thinking. It is about surrender and giving up. Not the way of the world. I invite you to put God to the test, ask him into your life, Not even expecting. It's ridiculous after all, isn't it? I would have left this Sunday school years ago, but I can't deny the very real presence of a living God here with me right now. It's amazing man.Try it out, you've tried everything else. Questions only lead to more questions. The truth leads to truth. And surpise, joy.
