Worse than a red light is a traffic light that's not working. What do we do? We look carefully both ways, a few times, and then we go when it's clear.
Sometimes we get mixed signals. It can come from our own expectations and a self focused perspective. When we're able to see things from another person's place, the signals can clear up a bit. I'm afraid mixed signals can complicate things your whole life. We can be on guard if we're disciplined, but just when you least expect it, someone throws you a curve.
Why don't we help the cause by not sending mixed signals?

It is really confusing.
I have no doubt that God is calling me to minister in a particular place. I don't really WANT to go, I just sense a real urgency about it.
Yet, because I'm an officer I must stay where I am.
That is mixed signals. Should I do what God wants? Or, well, I don't know.
I have no question that I was called to serve in The Salvation Army. I just don't know what to do.
Am I the only one who has these mixed signals?
How do I deal with the feeling of being disobedient by remaining where I am?
Mixed signals....Hmmm.
Have you any advice Commissioner.

Numbers 23:19 - God can't lie.
If you are truly called to minister elsewhere, His word will be consistent when He speaks to Army leadership about your future. He is not a liar, He is consistent; easy to say, tough to practise. Say what you need to say to who you need to say it to, gather your prayer warriors close, fast, and then wait, continuing to test your ears, making sure they are hearing properly.
My guess is that you have a long life to live, maybe it's not going to happen right away; maybe you are being givien a vision of where you will minister in time to come. We manage to get this idea that we have to do whatever we think God has said right away, without spending time understanding what he really has said.
I pray clarity for you; clarity of mind, honesty of heart, zeal for your spirit; and patience.

Mhairi has said it well. There are ways to communicate this to SA leadership. Our territory has an annual form we read carefully where each officer has the opportunity to express such concerns. You're not alone. I'm grateful that you're trusting God in the process.
unfortunately there are many square pegs in round holes at present. dialogue goes a long way into finding out where people's passions lie etc.
To the one who has expressed confusion - Mixed signals do not come from God. He is not a God of confusion. Wait on Him and ask for confirmation of His will in His Word, but in the meantime do not despise the appointment you now hold because it is not only a place of responsibility but of learning. So often, in looking ahead we miss the blessings of the present. God has something to teach you right now. The best advice I can give, if I may be permitted, is not to move unless you are certain. God can work it out. I'll be praying for you.
