Encouragement

Living in Christ is a joy and a challenge among many facets of our relationship. In the course of the journey, we will undoubtedly face moments and situations where we are misunderstood or even wrong. Even out of a pure heart these occurrences have the potential to drain our joy and dissipate our strength. It happens.

It's at these times when the Lord will send to us an agent of encouragement to enable us to look up to Him with renewed hope and courage. It can be a great opportunity when we recognize it as God's gift and provision for us. He never fails.

Perhaps He is leading you to be an agent of encouragement. Look for the possibilities and allow yourself to be used by God in this constructive way. I actually believe that a day won't pass without the inspiration of God towards you to do this. You're perfect for the task. Hallelujah!

Norwood, SA 125th Anniversary - Sunday

The weekend culminated today with rejoicing and renewal. It's a beautiful hall and it was packed both this morning and this afternoon, balcony and all. They even set up overflow space where there was a huge screen for people to enjoy the meetings.

God was honoured throughout. Time after time, expressions of the work of God over 125 years were given. With each story, we praised the Lord. The music too lifted our hearts to heaven as we shared in God's presence. The weekend focused on Reunion, Reflection and Renewal all pointing to the Lord Jesus.

We praise God for what He has done, is doing , and will be doing at Norwood Citadel. Hallelujah!

Norwood, SA 125th Anniversary

The celebrations of the Norwood Corps 125th Anniversary began with a Reunion Dinner Friday night. The banquet hall was packed and there were memories of the grace of God among us flowing freely through the hall. Some came from great distances to see friends of many years and to share happy stories, some revised through the years. Major Glenda Daddow, Major Cindy Shellenberger, and the Divisional Leaders, Majors Dennis and Pat Rowe all shared in leadership of the night. It was just great.

Today started with a Men's Breakfast meeting followed by a reunion band practice. The breakfast was terrific and the fellowship strong. There were also multiple historic displays that drew great interest and recollection.

The afternoon was filled with a BBQ picnic with games, face painting, family fun and again, good food. This is a wonderful corps with as promising a future as it has had a God-glorifying past. We're expecting a time of renewal tomorrow in the Sunday meetings.

Serving Christ

Let's listen in on the funeral of Colonel Bo Brekke:

‘WELCOME in the name of the risen Christ!’ With these words General Shaw Clifton greeted the congregation which had gathered for the funeral of Colonel Bo Brekke on 9 October 2007 at 11am in the Oslo Temple Corps, Norway. ‘We are people who know about resurrection, about Heaven and eternity with Christ,’ he continued, adding: ‘It is a beautiful death to die in Christ.’

‘When we run out of words we turn to Scripture,’ said the General, wanting God’s Word to be foremost on this occasion. He quoted Matthew 10:28: ‘Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.’ He told the congregation: ‘Do not be afraid! We need to take this to heart. We have no guarantee of tomorrow, but Revelation 2:10 tells us that, if faithful, even to the point of death, God will give us the crown of life.’

He continued: ‘I have one more question. There is now a gap in the ranks of soldiers, officers and senior leaders. The Army is hurting. Which of you will step forward, ready to hear the Holy Spirit’s voice: “You must stand in the gap”? Out of evil, ugliness, sin and cruelty it is God’s nature to bring something of surpassing beauty that today we cannot see. Unmatched beauty will come from all of this. The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church.’

Social Justice

We have an incredible responsibility to champion social justice in the name of Christ. This is not a new concept in the church or in the Army. We celebrate the efforts of early day Salvationists who gave themselves out of their love for Christ in this way.

Internationally, the General has thought the subject to be so important that he has established a social justice office connected to the United Nations, led by Commissioner Christine MacMillan.

Here in the Australia Southern Territory, we have Captain Danielle Strickland who is giving creative and capable leadership in this same area. Every day we are seeing increasing evidence of our own people seriously considering social justice issues and their part to play. Lord, help us each in our responsibilities to act justly and to love mercy whilst walking humbly with You.

God Answers Prayer

God has our hearts in His and hears our concerns from that place. Sometimes we make decisions with our hearts and other times with our heads. The distinction is significant to us. God's decisions are always from the heart. Our deepening relationship with Him will guide our thinking, our hopes and prayers. We come closer to His will in the process. It's a great place to be.

Today, God has revealed Himself in wonderful ways with answers that are thrilling. He is moving among us in remarkable ways and I am grateful. He is Lord and His love instills a confidence in us that we can stand in faith, believing Him. Hallelujah!

Full Day

The day started with the recognition of the Ford Motor Company for their support of Bambara a camp located in Clonbinane, Victoria and operated by Westcare. Thank you, John Avent for your ministry and the work that takes place at Bambara. Whilst we were standing there talking about the programme, we were pleasantly surprised by a Koala who decided to join us.

The second stop was an all afternoon meeting with a Public relations firm that is supporting our efforts with Connections '07. It's a blessing to have such a professional team on our side.

The third was an evening meeting with a city Councilman to discuss the realities of homelessness and affordable housing. His plans are solid and will be easy to support. There is much to do on this subject. Can we eliminate homelessness? I think we should try.

Captains Paul and Robbin Moulds

Both Captains Robbin and Paul Moulds were used by God to minister to us at the Aggressive Christianity Conference. If you want, you can acquire copies of their messages and all others as well. I strongly recommend that you do.

Today, at the Box Hill Corps they both spoke in the meetings and reminded us of God's love for all, including the last, the least and the lost. They are both servants of God and gifted communicators. Their words are validated by their commitment and experience. God is with them.

Thank you to both. You have served well in this part of the vineyard.

Melbourne Veterans' Band

The Melbourne Veterans' Band gave a strong witness in concert this afternoon in the BMW Theatre at Federation Square. They were terrific. Under the leadership of Bandmaster Noel Jones and Executive Officer Major Howard Davies. Both of these servants of God are treasures in The Salvation Army and soldiers of the Australia Southern Territory. I have known them from a distance for many years and am blessed to know them now as friends.

The ministry of the band connected with the many who were there. The Male Chorus too gave glory to God in their singing and hearty witness. I believe we sensed the joy of God through the whole programme. Hallelujah!

ACC Final

It was as if the week was building in a crescendo of spiritual empowerment. I was able to speak to the group this afternoon and presented my dream for the territory. Perhaps it'll show up somewhere for others to consider.

In the afternoon we also shared in the book launch of Olivia Munn and Stephen Court's book entitled, "The Uprising" It's really good work and I'd recommend it for youth to read about holiness. I'll probably post again about it before long.

Tonight, Jeff Lucas had us rolling in the aisles and seeking God on our knees. The Spirit of God moved in our hearts and we are found affirmed and greatly inspired. I cannot imagine that the early Army meetings were anymore exciting or powerful. This one had it all. Hallelujah!

More ACC and More

ACC in Melbourne tonight featured the amazing Captain Danielle Strickland. God spoke through her powerfully and passionately. He so loves to dispense mercy whilst drawing us to justice. Hallelujah!

The Box Hill Songsters and their Big Band were on duty tonight. Good music for all.

Earlier in the day, General Burrows gave an aggression session and boldly gave us every reason to make evangelism our passion. She understands the value of our middle name. I wonder if she'd be willing to serve again as General when the next opportunity presents itself.

Then there was so much to celebrate elsewhere today too. God is moving in our territory. Yes!

ACC & Fair Trade

Tonight, Captain Robbin Moulds brought the message in the evening Rally at the Box Hill Corps Aggressive Christianity Conference. She was great. The worship band, again, kept us alive and honouring God.

In each meeting we are learning more about Fair Trade and our need to support these initiatives as a matter of social justice. If you come to tomorrow night's meeting, you'll hear an announcement related to this very subject. Hallelujah!

There was also a time of prayer for the Brekke family, Pakistan and the General, who carries significant concerns for the Army in these days. God bless the Army.

ACC 07

The Aggressive Christianity Conference has begun today with a day of officer sessions. General Eva Burrows, Mr. Jeff Lucas and Major Paul Moulds spoke to us in convincing terms with clarity, consistency and conviction. It was worth every minute. The question and answer time was, as well, very interesting.

The evening session was capably led by the ACC worship band that rocked the house and glorified God. We were glad to be there. They're off to a great start and there's room for more to come. If you're in the neighborhood during the day or in the evening, you're invited to join us. It's all at the Box Hill Corps in Victoria. I'm believing for global impact. Hallelujah!

Colonel Bo Brekke

Colonel Bo Brekke, Territorial Commander of the Pakistan Territory, was shot and killed Thursday 27 September. The incident occurred in the THQ compound shortly after the colonel had presided over the retirement and farewell meeting to the Chief Secretary and Territorial Secretary for Women's Ministries. Information to date points to an individual act of criminality. There is nothing to suggest that this is related in any way to terrorism. The incident occurred at about 6.30 p.m. local time while Colonel Brekke was working alone in his office. Our hearts reach out to Colonel Birgitte Brekke and her family at this tragic time.

A Norwegian by birth, Bo Brekke was a cadet in the 'Proclaimers of Salvation' session, being commissioned as an officer in May 1980 and appointed as corps officer to Brevik, in Norway. The following year he transferred to corps leadership in the Denmark Territory, the home territory of Birgitte. After two years in Denmark Bo and Birgitte returned to Norway and continued in service in corps appointments until their transfer to the Sri Lanka Territory at the beginning of 1987.

In Sri Lanka, a short period as Manager of Hope House preceded an appointment as Acting Property Secretary in July 1987, and then as Property and Special Efforts Secretary from November 1988. As Community Services Secretary from 1991, the then Captain Brekke also undertook management of Hope House once again.

Bo and Birgitte returned to Norway from 1993 to 1995, giving leadership to the Fredrikstad Corps during that time.

Having developed a deep love for South Asia and its people, it was a personal joy for Bo and Birgitte Brekke when, in August 1995 they were appointed as regional leaders to Bangladesh. Under their leadership the work of the Army flourished and in 1997 the Bangladesh Region was granted command status, and Major Bo Brekke was appointed as Officer Commanding, with Birgitte serving alongside him as Command President of Women's Ministries and Command Youth Officer.

The late summer of 2002 saw a further change of culture and working environment as Bo and Birgitte were appointed as divisional leaders of the North Scotland Division in the United Kingdom Territory, followed by service respectively as Chief Secretary and Secretary for Mission Development in the Eastern Europe Territory. It was from there that, almost exactly one year ago (15 September 2006) Colonel Bo Brekke was appointed as Territorial Commander of the Pakistan Territory, and Colonel Birgitte Brekke as Territorial President of Women's Ministries.

At the time of her husband's promotion to Glory Colonel Birgitte Brekke was attending meetings at International Headquarters in London. Arrangements were made immediately for her to fly to Norway to be with her two sons and other family members. She was accompanied by her sister who had come to London to see Birgitte while she was visiting IHQ.

We thank God for the commitment that Bo Brekke demonstrated through 27 years of faithful and effective service as a Salvation Army officer, and I know you will join me in prayer on behalf of Birgitte, her sons Benjamin and Bo Christoffer and other members of the family who, whilst encouraged by the hope that we have in the Risen Christ, nevertheless are understandably devastated by the tragic and untimely promotion to Glory of a loving husband, father and friend.

Darwin Sunday

The day with the Melbourne Staff Songsters started with the holiness meeting at the Darwin Corps. The Palmerston Corps joined in the worship as well. The meeting was moving as the Songsters bring a joy and conviction to every venue at which they sing. I praise God for each of them and for those who knelt at the mercy seat to connect with God.

The afternoon programme was beautifully shared with the African Gospel Singers who ministered to us in lively fashion. Both groups delighted God with their offerings and we were blessed to be in their company.

Darwin

Besides the Grand Finals of Footy, the Staff Songsters arrived in Darwin this afternoon and promptly engaged in a vocal clinic for the high school choir. This, of course is a great idea and led to their joint performance tonight at the Christ Church in Darwin. Salvationists from the area came as did many people from the neighborhood.

The weather was hot and humid. It took its toll on a couple of Songsters, but the group stood the test of a long week and tough conditions. They make us all proud. Thanks to Majors Ritchie and Gail Watson for their leadership and preparations here in the Top End.

9 But neither exile nor homecoming is the main thing. Cheerfully pleasing God is the main thing, and that's what we aim to do, regardless of our conditions.

Alice Springs Day 2

The second day here in Alice with the Melbourne Staff Songsters has been a delight. The morning stated with a small group going to the Australian Police Memorial Service where they sang and we witnessed the dedication of this city towards their police. The larger part of the group did a programme at an aged care facility and were warmly received as well.

Mid-day the Songsters met at the Corps with their Aboriginal choir to practice an item for the evening outdoor programme. All went well. The evening outdoor programme drew over 100 onlookers and was a great opportunity to sing to the glory of God. Hallelujah!

Alice Springs

We arrived in Alice after a day of visiting Uluru again and a long day in the bus. It gives me a chance to indicate what a great group the Melbourne Staff Songsters are. They work hard. They work together. They love the Lord and care about each other. It's all working.

Uluru

Uluru, also known as Ayer's Rock was worth the journey. Located close to the centre of the country and 800+ kilometers from Coober Pedy, it rises up out of the centre of the earth to make quite an impressive scene. The Indigenous People see it as sacred ground and many precautions are taken to protect them in their beliefs.

The Melbourne Staff Songsters gathered at the foot of the Rock to see the sun set and it's light changing affect on the Rock itself. They sang 4 songs including Let Your Presence Fall on Me, I Woke Up This Morning With My Mind Stayed on Jesus, and a Scriptural Benediction that sanctified the moment for us all and for those who were onlookers nearby. God drew us together and sealed the experience in our hearts. Hallelujah!

Coober Pedy

Now here's a one of a kind town in the world. Coober Pedy is a long way by bus from Port Augusta. We saw wild emus along the Stuart Highway and noted that a certain stretch of the highway was a dedicated emergency landing strip for planes and jets to use when necessary. We did keep our eyes in the skies just to make sure we weren't being confronted by some of Qantas' finest.

Our motel is in the side of the hill as are much of the establishments and dwellings. You would even call it a cave. The rooms get pretty dark day or night when you turn off the lights. The design is quite practical in the heat and dust storms they have here.

The programme too was one of a kind. You'll want to ask the songsters. They sang to God's honour and joy. Hallelujah!

John 20:8 (NIV)
8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed.

Port Augusta

On the way to Port Augusta, the Melbourne Staff Songsters stopped first at Gawler, South Australia for morning tea. As arranged, the corps officer, made sure there were soldiers and volunteers present, because after the tea, the Songsters sang and ministered to them. It was a blessed moment and all were thrilled to be a part of it.

Similarly, the next stop was Kadina for lunch and a fellowship time with soldiers and friends followed by a mini-programme for them in the corps hall. Here too, the Holy Spirit encouraged each of our hearts to His delight.

By evening, we found ourselves giving a full concert in Port Augusta, South Australia. The crowd was healthy and very responsive to the Songsters. In one particular song, the crowd sings with the Songsters. Here, they raised the roof. Hallelujah!

Portland and Mt. Gambier

On Sunday, the Melbourne Staff Songsters ministered at the Portland, Victoria in the Western Victoria Division. The morning worship was a beautiful time to remember as the Holman family came forward for prayer with many supporters from the corps.

In the arvo (afternoon)the songsters sang and witnessed at the Mount Gambier Corps where a very good crowd welcomed them to the glory of God. Many folks came from quite a distance to be there. Thanks to Majors Howard and Elaine Trendell for their good work.

As their tour begins to unfold, it is obvious that each one of the Songsters loves the Lord and convey their love throughout their singing. Hallelujah!

Warnambool

This is a great corps in Western Victoria under the leadership of Captains Mains. The corps hosted the Melbourne Staff Songsters tonight for a gospel concert. The hall was full and everyone enjoyed the programme immensely. This was the first night of the MSB tour of South Australia and the Northern Territory. In each programme, the gospel will be presented and we will see what the Holy Spirit wants to do with it all. We're expecting great things.

Please bring the group, its leadership and those who will attend the programmes before the Lord. As we pray together, I believe God will anoint the efforts to His glory. Thanks for praying even now.

Keeping the Faith

Some early Booth quotes would speak to getting saved and keeping saved. In the same context, keeping the faith relates to where we hold on and not let go. It means trusting Jesus what e'er befall...It is far from meaning keeping ones faith to oneself.

So look at the challenges of the day as opportunities to witness in your faith. Discouragement and distraction are tools of the enemy. We have much to remember about God's faithfulness. He has not deserted us. He champions our faith and welcomes the strength of our witness in the journey. Hallelujah! Pleasing God alone can swell our soul with delight. Yes. Let's keep the faith!

Parker Place

The Western Victoria Division dedicated Parker Place today. As a part of the Karinya Social Programme in Ballarat, these eight housing units will be used for homeless women and their families. They are great and will signal an appropriate sense of dignity to those who will use them going forward. This is great.

There are more than 100,000 homeless people in Australia with 30,000 in the state of Victoria. Of these, 5,000 are between the ages of 12-18. This is something we have to do something about and they are in Ballarat. Congratulations to Majors Walker, the Divisional Leaders and Captain Sharon Bywaters, the programme leader.

New Candidates

I learned today of two new candidates for officership. They hope to enter the Training College in the next session. God has spoken to their hearts and they are committed to following Him. Hallelujah!

We are also seeing God move amongst Lieutenants. I've learned of more today who are seeing God's way through to officership. This is a blessing.

Candidates" Board met today to consider the suitability of a good candidate for officership.

Add all of this to the new soldiers that have been enroled lately and you'll begin to witness the work of God. Thank you, Lord for these encouraging people who also witness to our hearts.

Quality Control

So who could be against quality? I suppose the question might be at what expense? The word itself is very much a relative concept. A quality product to some, often is not to others.

What about a quality life? While it would be easy to write that a life is lacking quality without Christ, there are countless people who have contributed to our society who were not followers of Christ. It speaks of our values and why we are here. We are here, undoubtedly to honour God. When we do so, our life takes on a quality that exceeds personal accomplishments. That quality of life never diminishes the value of another life.

Let the quality of our life in Christ be what draws other people to Him.

Practice Makes Perfect

It's an interesting phrase.

How about this old one? The stranger to NY asks "How do I get to Carnegie Hall?" The New Yorker answers, "practice, practice, practice."

Why is it that a Doctor practices medicine and a lawyer practices law. When do they do it for real?

However we understand it, we need to practice our faith in the crucible of our daily journey. It needs to be our every moments intention, until it becomes us...as in the image of God. Sounds perfect, doesn't it?

Saved2Serve

Six new Senior Soldiers were enroled tonight to the glory of God. It was clear they are under the banner, saved2serve. The hall was filled with supporters as Andy, Naomi, Kathryn, Kirsten, Rachel and Ryan signed their Articles of War. Each one also had another sponsor/supporter present to pray with them and stand by them at the service.

We need more Soldiers and with these in mind, God is sending His best. Hallelujah!

We spent some time looking at the word of God where He makes it clear that we are saved to serve. The serving part includes leading others to Christ. Let us each be diligent in our efforts to do so.

Togethering

On the invitation to our wedding, we used a word that probably still isn't one. We invited people to be there to share in the moment that would formally initiate our "togethering in Christ." It might have been a seventies kind of thing on our mind, but it has indeed become a descriptor of our journey.

Carolyn's return from Sunbury Court reminds me that I'm at my best when we are togethering in Christ. The kilometers aren't really negatively significant to our relationship. We are in unison, serving Christ. It's a concept that is also the prayer of our Lord: "that we might be one." I like this part of the answer to His prayer. Hallelujah!

Calling

Would you keep reading if I promised to tell you about your calling? This is a matter that many believers struggle with. We look to God for where we ought to be and what we ought to be doing. Along with your calling, I know God's will for your life. It actually has less to do with the where and what as it does with the who.

Anniversary Day

Although not our wedding anniversary, today was an anniversary of sorts. I met with a few friends for the best part of the day to celebrate the presence of God in our lives and in the territory. The whole experience was refreshing.

You might want to take a minute with a few friends to consider where you were at this time last year and what God has done in your life. It's not the type of thing you would do every day of your life, but once in a while, it will undoubtedly reveal the provision of God and faith rewarded. Hallelujah!

Measuring Success

Godly success is measured by faithfulness. There aren't enough computers in the world to calculate the significance and success in serving God. How do you become successful? Start by trusting God. Continue by living for Him every day. Claim the sanctified experience. Make it even more purposeful by celebrating radical obscurity. Your life will be dripping with faithfulness...and authentic success.

Now you know I'm not given to formulaic spirituality. The point is faithfulness. Now look at how it really works...(in the scripture here) Hallelujah!

Really Good People

I'm in the process of meeting really good Salvationists this week. We have an amazing array of committed people who love the Lord and want to serve Him completely. He is assembling a company of the committed in His service to draw many to His love.

My heart is overwhelmed by the depth of our people and the joys expressed in the day to day battles through which He has made them winners. Hallelujah!

Thank you, Lord for the faithful, the righteous, and the diligent. With them in your strength, we can win the world for Jesus.

God at Work

Sometimes we wonder where God is. We seemed to have survived the whole "God is dead" thing, although I did hear children sing recently, "God's not dead. No! He is alive." So where or when do you see God at work?

He is at work at every meal you enjoy and for every night you sleep in safe haven. Don't miss Him by the curse of the familiar.

I happen to be rejoicing today for the way He is at work in people. I'm enjoying seeing Him alive and well in the souls of people who love Him and who serve Him with their whole life. Hallelujah!

Primary

At the corps today, we celebrated the contribution of the Primary kids to our lives. They sang and danced and recited lines. They were great. All of the kids are. The parents were proud. The grands were thrilled and the rest of us just swelled with joy to witness the promise of God in each of these children. Hallelujah!

Can we hold them in the grace of God? We must do everything we can to do so. It is a battle that we cannot take lightly. I expect that each one of these parents will fight for their child's life. Sometimes we just don't know how to do it and sometimes our own distractions turn into the calamities of the children. God help us.

What do you say to God?

Now this might seem to be a trick question. What do you say to God? You might ask what are the circumstances or what is the context?

I submit to you, the answer to God is "Yes." Whatever He says to you, the yes is an indication of our total devotion to Him and our intention to serve Him without equivocation.

Up to it? The answer to that one is no, apart from the grace of God.

It doesn't need to be complex when we understand that He is Lord...no one else. Hallelujah!

Traveling

The joy is in the journey. More than the destination, the journey needs to be filled with grace, holy expectation and integrity. It's in the journey that we will see the daily grace of God in our lives and in others'. Watch for it. Experience it. Know it.

On this basis, it doesn't matter where you are on the journey. Being joined with Jesus will bring to your life the fullness and hope that God designed us for. There's no reason to await the destinations in life as your only satisfaction. Enjoy the traveling in Christ.

Champions

From time to time we feel like we're working with champions. We have some of the best officers in the world in the Australian Southern Territory and we are so grateful to God for them. Carolyn and I met with a few of these officers today for a casual meeting. My heart rejoices for their faithfulness, hopefulness and earnestness. Hallelujah!

Don't worry about who they are. Give thought to being all you can be for God. That's they key to their success. That's what shines through them like a brilliant beam from heaven. There are, in fact many like these today who serve out of love and in so doing, serve like champions. Thank you.

Philip Yancey

The celebrated author was in Melbourne today. He spoke at a good event sponsored by the Evangelical Alliance. There were about 200 there and estimating by the response, everyone was blessed by Mr. Yancey's message. I'll resist the temptation to restate his points, but rather, celebrate his faithfulness as well as his latest book. You can acquire a copy of the DVD of his message from Evangelical Alliance.

I've never read one of his books I didn't like. This one's entitled, "Prayer: Does It Make a Difference? I have yet to read it, but am blessed that he has chosen this subject. In the book he asks, "Why is it that prayer ranks so high on surveys of importance and so low on surveys of satisfaction?" This is a great question.

Let's just pray...and then...trust God.

Appearances

It appears we have an obsession about our appearance and our appearances. Passing a mirror? Did you check yourself out? How about the reflection in the store window? Were you able to see yourself clearly? Happy with your appearance?

Appearance not only relates to your look, but also with your location. Are you where you want to be? Now the double whammy...Are you concerned about how you look as it relates to where you are? Do I appear confused?

Made in the image of God, we are designed to be like Him...like Jesus. It comes true when it not only is our appearance, it is our reality.

3 What matters is not your outer appearance—the styling of your hair, the jewelry you wear, the cut of your clothes—

Recruitment

We are all recruiters. It's God's plan. We each have the joy of sharing the love of God in such a way as to attract others to His love. It's a form of recruitment.

In much the same way, we need to begin to understand that we are all recruiters for local officers and commissioned officers as well. Who doesn't want a great person in these roles? So is this solely the responsibility of the Corps Officers or the Candidates' Secretary? Hardly. It's one of the problems we have when we ask someone to be specifically interested in a certain responsibility in the church. We begin to think that the job belongs to someone else.

Experience the joy of recruiting for God. You might need to look into the mirror.

Major Maureen Hamilton

Major Maureen Hamilton was Promoted to Glory this morning at 2:15 a.m.. In the company of her medically trained nephew, she left this world for the next by the promise and provision of Christ Jesus. Stationed at the Geelong Corps with her husband Stuart, she was a member of the God's Soldiers Session of training. She has been a faithful servant of God and a wonderful wife and mother. Maureen will be missed, but will always be remembered.

We can all rejoice in God's plan for Maureen. Hallelujah!

We need to remain in prayer for Maureen's family and close friends. Thank you for joining with us in this regard.

Auction action

The house across the street was auctioned for sale this afternoon. It was an intriguing sight. At first it resembled an open-air. There was a man shouting with an open-air voice. His associates were handing out pamphlets and the crowd was scattered all over the side walks on both sides of the street as well as in the street.

At the conclusion, it occurred to me that the joy of the experience was limited to three parties present: the seller, the buyer, and the auctioneer.

How different is an open-air. The good news pronounced at the open-air is for all to experience the joy of Jesus, and at no cost to anyone in the ring. The person who accepts the Lord as Saviour is welcomed into the kingdom of God and owner of a "mansion, just over the hilltop." Hallelujah!

Salvo Stores

Mr. Allen Dewhirst is the CEO of our Salvo Stores. Their work is essential to our mission and missional as well. Their team works hard and is strategically focused. I'm grateful to God for them.

The Stores would be advantaged by more volunteers from our corps. Do you have some time you can offer for the good of the cause? There are quite a few well serving volunteers as we speak, but there is no question, more would support the cause. Why not take the love of God into these environments where your witness will be valuable?

In ten of our stores in Victoria, we have Christian Resource Corners. This is where a person can purchase new books, cd's and such. I would love to offer Australians the opportunity to always find a good Christian resource at any Salvo Store. Why not check it out? If your store doesn't have this yet, ask them to do it.

Affordable Housing

Affordable housing is a serious issue around the world. In Australia 2 million people live below the poverty line. Many of them are homeless. TSA continues to offer support services to this population on a 24/7 basis in many different forms. Our array of services includes, but goes way beyond government funded resources, because their needs goes beyond the imagination and the limits of the funding parties.

We do this willingly. You see, people need a reasonable and safe place to live. After that, many have need of other support services to assure their permanence in their housing. Then, in the process, we have the joy of demonstrating the love of God and His provision for us all. We have great people in this service and we know the greatness of God.

Mission Development

With our mission clear in our minds, we can go forward to sort out how exactly the mission might shape up as we go along. With culture moving at a rapid pace as well as our personal lives, it requires a continual refocusing of our mission and mission alignment. Without intentional efforts on our part, we become stale and ineffective in due course.

We can do some of this at THQ, but I believe it to be an active role for every level of service and in most locations. Who does it where you are? Is someone doing it? Take a look around you. Are we keeping up with the active interests and needs of the people God wants us to serve? We need to.

The Bridge

The Bridge Programme is a valuable asset of the Melbourne Central Division as well as the Territory. It is a sophisticated drug and alcohol programme that serves the entire state of Victoria. Carolyn and I visited two of their sites yesterday and were very impressed with the team that makes it happen and the programmes themselves. Thank you Majors Coleman and your crew.

The men and women who access this programme are fortunate individuals. Based upon what we discovered, their hope for recovery is high. The careful integration of spiritual support assures these same people that healing for their eternity is at heart. We need to pray for these clients and the staff who work with them. Pray that God has His way with them.

Future Brass

Wow! The music was fantastic and the kids were great. The Melbourne Staff Band hosted young people from across the Territory as well as a few from the Eastern Territory for a weekend of music training, music making and music enjoying. We witnessed the culmination of their efforts on Sunday afternoon at the South Barwon Corps. All of us were lifted towards heaven as a result of being there.

The Staff Band was superb and the two Future Brass groups were terrific too. The choice of music was inspirational and thrilling. I see this experience as critically important for the future of brass and the future of these brass musicians. Everyone came out a winner.

Thanks to B/M Ken Waterworth and his team for a job well done. God is glorified in you.

South Barwon

This territory is blessed with many great corps. We attended the South Barwon corps, actually located in Belmont, Victoria. The morning worship meeting was full of fellowship, joy and the presence of the Holy Spirit. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed and included.

Thanks to the entire corps and especially to Majors Gloria and David Eldridge. The friendliness of the meeting captured us immediately. The message, "David and God and Goliath" was compelling and challenging. Hallelujah!

Coming to the neighborhood? Stop in. It will be worth it.

Be Free

The Melbourne Staff Songsters presented the gospel tonight in convincing ways at the Waverley Temple Corps. Their music, testimonies and message gave us all a great night in the presence of God. Songster Leader Brian Hogg and Executive Officer, Major Laurie Robertson are giving the group excellent leadership.

In a few weeks, the Songsters will be beginning a concert tour with the theme, "Be Free," from the bottom of Australia to the top, starting at Warnambool and concluding with Darwin. They'll be on the bus a while in between concert stops as well as a few corps visits along the way. Please be in prayer for them. Carolyn and I will be joining them for the campaign.

Small Groups

We met in a small group the other night where the Spirit was present and we were each encouraged in our faith. I join many who aren't given to group therapy, but the leader of this group kept us clear from feeling that way. I was really glad.

We just plain had a good time. We made it cross generational and still felt as if we were valued simply for being ourselves. It was very comfortable. They had snacks too. Now that never hurts. I learned about and witnessed a "Tim Tam Slammer." It involves biscuits and coffee. I can't wait to try one.

Why not try a small group? You'd be amazed what you might learn and how your life might be advanced. Hallelujah!

Training College Spiritual Day

On a regular basis, Carolyn and I conduct Spiritual Days at the Training College. Today was one of those special days. She spoke on the destruction of the walls of Jericho and conveyed a picture of the event like many of us have never seen before. Amazing.

The Cadets are a joy to be with as are the Training College Staff. All were in concert today, celebrating the presence of our risen Lord in song, witness, praise and prayer. Hallelujah!

Bringing People to Christ

What a joy it is to hear that people are coming to the Lord. My heart swells when I learn of such happenings in the territory (and elsewhere too). Certainly, "the angels in heaven rejoice" when this takes place as well.

This is the heart of our mission. We are, and must be, The SALVATION Army. Our focus needs to be aimed at sharing the love of God in Christ to those who don't know Him and to those who do. God desires that everyone be brought to salvation and that we do our part in the process.

You know that we actually need to communicate God's love in ways that they have a choice. Being nice is a start, but only that. There comes a point at which you need to commit to the message and ask the question. Not all gifted evangelists? We are being gifted with powerful love to be shared. Hallelujah!

20yO Development Conference

Ah, the twenty year officers. What an interesting mob. We met together today to celebrate their faithfulness to God and clearly His faithfulness to them. Since their commissioning some, not present, have been unable to come this far in the journey. Some for reasons of their own choosing and others for causes that may be described as being victimised or beyond their control.

These, however, are the ones who having faced the battle, are still standing. Each with their wounds, none of which fatal and each with their victories. Can you hear them shout? Christ is Lord! He is the King of Kings and friend of the lowest in our land. I can hear them in a deafening echo that resounds over two decades of life lived in holy purpose and love. Hallelujah!

Tri-Territorial Theological Forum

The 3T Theological Forum met this past week in Melbourne and launched their second journal entitled Windows of Opportunity - Exploring our Foundations: Sacrifice, Salvation, Discipleship. The articles are all good and useful to the thinking Salvationist. We need this kind of open dialogue by students of the Word and of the ministry.

At the launch, we were stimulated by Captain Grattan-Jon Savage who spoke on "Holiness Then and Now: Salvation Army Ecclesiology" and Captain Grant Sandercock-Brown who presented, "Is Social Justice the New Morality?" It's possible that these may find their way into the third journal. I'm given to understand that the journals are available on the web somewhere. Perhaps someone will be kind enough to comment where.

Ringwood Men's Breakfast

The Ringwood Corps has a regular Men's Breakfast programme that features guest speakers and a very good breakfast. It was my privilege to participate this morning and share something of my heart on the significant role of men in our world.

Bram Southwell is the leader of the event. He and his capable team assembled a fine group of men, not all of whom attend the corps. It is very well organised and worth attending. The camaraderie in the room was a blessing and the experience valuable. It's an effective model many corps could consider.

V2A @ MCD

Day two of the visit to the Melbourne Central Division gave us a look at their Vision To Action. It includes a plan for mission prioritisation, integration and implementation. It builds on the significant work of over 125 years of ministry in their part of Melbourne and it's a good plan.

You'll note from the comments from yesterday that God is moving in the hearts and ministries of MCD Institutions and Corps. Hallelujah!

MCD

Yes, MCD stands for the Melbourne Central Division. We're spending two days together to review the extraordinary ministries that are taking place and to spend time with the leadership. Majors Rodney and Jenny Barnard are the capable Divisional Leaders who share the joy of this remarkable opportunity with a team that is strong, hopeful and engaging.

We're seeing evidence of God's good work in plain sight and are being encouraged by their strategies for reaching many more for the Kingdom. Hallelujah! I'm glad to be a Salvo.

Addictions

We just might have more addictions than we know. Not all addictions are destructive. Some are just distracting and others have a constructive aspect. Can we be addicted to Bible reading? It sounds a bit severe, but I suppose it's possible.

Mostly, addictions are thought as negative and harmful. At what point can a person be free from an addiction? Some will say that once a person is an alcoholic, they're always an alcoholic. Is it not possible for God to break such a stronghold? I know of many serious Christian counselors who believe that God will end an addiction to alcohol.

Now what about us? Can we muster enough forgiveness (and forgetness)to trust God in these ways? I wonder if our doubts negatively contribute to the insecurity of the former addict. Help us, Lord.

15 Believing-prayer will heal you, and Jesus will put you on your feet. And if you've sinned, you'll be forgiven—healed inside and out.

Thinking

Now here's a subject we're as familiar with as breathing. Sometimes we're accused of not thinking and sometimes people will actually say, without thinking, "What were you thinking?" The thought process is valuable to who we are and who we will become. It is essential in our prayer and practical in our service. Don't you think so?

What are you thinking right now? (Why am I reading this blog?)...or maybe something else? Can I suggest we keep our thoughts positive and bright? There are so many places we can go in our minds to escape our realities and to journey to our fantasies. There are dark places without light that may even accentuate our fears.

Thinking about Jesus and His love will be the best place our mind can go. The outcomes will prove better than you might think. I'll be there too.

8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.

Proving the grace of God

Lest we think our best plans are working and making the difference, I would suggest that the prevalence of the grace of God is the answer. He is leading us, helping us, providing for us, caring for us. God is. Hallelujah!

Let's continue to serve Him optimally and recognise the blessing of His grace in what we do. This is in the relationship we have with Him and is His desire and joy. A day doesn't pass without the demonstration of His love for us. Look for Him. See Him. Worship Him. Enjoy the life He gives today.

Swan Hill Sunday

We started the day at the corps with a gathering of the SAMIAC group to reconsider what we had learned the day before. Major John Farquharson led us capably and drew us to pray for our findings and for the events of the day. We returned to the "ten steps" on the Murray River for public worship of God.

The music was bright and engaging as was the testimonies and prayers. We looked to the Word of God from Isaiah 43 and listened to the voice of God among us. It was a beaut.

Altogether, we listened to the voices of the Indigenous People and the voice of God. What we gained, we are still processing and believe that it will be revealed in each of us in the days ahead. Hallelujah!

Swan Hill

On the Murray River, you'll find the community of Swan Hill, where the people are friendly and the weather just right. We met there together at the request of the Salvation Army Multicultural and Indigenous Australia Council to consider how we might better connect with Indigenous People. It has been a remarkable day.

Members of the Cabinet and the Council met with many Indigenous People on the banks of the Murray River. First we ate at the BBQ, then we actually did sit at the ten steps on the bank of the river. We listened and shared from the heart as God was glorified by such communication. By the end of the evening we were back at the corps hall celebrating and singing in sweet fellowship and harmony. Hallelujah!

Lt. Colonel Milford McPherson

One of the privileges of the day, Friday, was to attend the memorial service for the life of Lt. Colonel Milford McPherson. It was at the Training College where the room was filled with those who know him and value his influence on their lives. The meeting was led by Lt. Colonel Edwin Hayes who represented all Salvationists with his pastoral support of the family and his deep respect for the Colonel.

Grandson, Tim, gave an inspirational message to us all in the recounting of his grandfather's life and incredible influence in his ministry. Serving in Australia and a few other countries, Lt. Colonel McPherson represented his Lord and Saviour, Jesus, throughout his life to the glory of God. From what I learned, we are fortunate to have known him. Hallelujah!

I was invited by the Australian Christian Lobby to attend an evening to meet both the Prime Minister John Howard and the opposition candidate Kevin Rudd. The format allowed for four sessions where twenty Christian leaders were in a room with each candidate to meet them personally and ask questions.

The second set of meetings was in a larger group where the candidates each spoke for 45-60 minutes followed by prepared questions from the audience.

Both men were prepared and respectful. Both were personal and engaging. Both of them have a high regard for TSA. It was in all, a good event.

As the choice goes forward for the election of the next Prime Minister, we need to carefully consider what we believe to be God's will for the country. I wouldn't suggest the choice to be easy.

Eastern Victoria Division

Thank you, Lord, for a good day. We shared the day with the Eastern Victoria Division whilst doing their annual review. God is at work here in the fine ministry of Majors Ron and Robyn Clinch and their team.

We celebrate growth trends in the division and see God's hand in what is happening. It has required careful visioning, planning and implementation. There's strong evidence of prayer and faithfulness across the board.

Bring it on, Lord!

National Brengle Institute

At any reference to Commissioner Samuel Logan Brengle, one begins to think of holiness. His life and writings have taught and inspired many of us on our journey of faith. God raised him up to crystallize our thinking and understanding on this beaut experience for us all.

In the next week to ten days, delegates from all over Australia have joined together for an opportunity to explore the word of God on the subject of the "second blessing" and will draw near to the Lord in holy expectation and openness. It will be a most satisfying experience and one that will reveal God's powerful love in them. Hallelujah!

We met with them last night at the Geelong Conference Centre. I love how God sends the right people at the right time. As you kneel before the Father this week, think of these faithful ones and let's support their blessing.

Music and Gospel Arts

You may have noticed that we are re-instituting the Territorial Music Department with a twist. It will soon exist as the Territorial Music and Gospel Arts Team. You will also know that Captains Mark and Tracey Bearcroft are taking up these appointments and will be leading us in these ways under the auspices of the Corps Programme Department.

What we are attempting to do is to facilitate and stimulate the wonderful gifts that God has given His people in TSA. We have composers, writers, set designers, musicians, instrumentalists, vocalists, conductors, videographers and more who are looking to glorify God in their area of giftedness. These are also an assortment of ways people will be attracted to God's love and grace. It's a winning combination...so we're going for it. Hallelujah!

MCD Youth Meeting

At the Keilor Corps tonight we met with a packed chapel of youth and some leaders to celebrate God's love and presence in our lives. The Keilor Youth Band brought the music and led us in worship capably and in the Spirit of God. Divisional Youth Leaders Major Sandra Maunder and Major Mim Adams organised a great night. Majors Rodney and Jenny Barnard. Divisional Leaders, were there supporting their youth and witnessing to the grace of God in their lives.

These gatherings are powerful and great opportunities for our youth to connect in the presence of God. Their worship is energetic and earnest. With who was in the room, I imagine we could win Melbourne for Christ. Why don't we?

Footy

There is a phenomenon in Australia known as Footy. That is Australian Rules Football...It's here where some would call it "no rules" football. Now deep into our second season of exposure, here in Melbourne, we are beginning to feel the excitement of the sport.

The game itself is nonstop. The play is only minimally influenced by referees and an abundance of rules that slow down and stop the game. In some other sports, the role of the referee is so strong, the figure into the strategy of the game. Then there are the team theme songs that have to be heard to be appreciated.

Living is nonstop and our lives are designed for excitement and energetic engagement. Can we focus that joy collectively and team up to celebrate the source of our hope? It's Jesus. Hallelujah!

Authentic Holiness

Actually, the title of the book is "Authentic Holiness for ordinary Christians". It is written by Majors Geoff and Kalie Webb. They are corps officers at the Ingle Farm Corps in South Australia and are presently awaiting visas for appointments to Pakistan. Prayer on their behalf will be effectual.

The book is a good treatise as the title suggests on the joy of holiness for regular people. It's a good read and well worth the time. You can get it here in Australia and we are working on making it available on even a wider scale. It's recommended on the cover by Dr. Roger Green, Captain Dr. Stephen Court and Major Dr. Alan Harley, a formidable mob, for sure.

Transparency

I believe God calls us to openness when He saves us. We need to be open to Him and others in obedience to Him. If we're keeping secrets from Him, we're kidding ourselves and being inconsistent with a hope to be wholly given to Him.

The matter of transparency comes with trust. When we trust the Lord more, we are more open to Him. This would be known as spiritual growth. Our trust in each other is also marked by a willingness to be transparent. The lack of openness in our journey often translates as deception. There are a few matters in our lives that we ought not bother others with their knowledge. Apart from these, our openness can facilitate a freedom in Christ that has no need of a good memory for fear of getting our stories straight.

The Future

While not overlooking today, the future is very interesting. Have you heard a forecast lately? This morning I heard two forecasts before breakfast. First it was the weather. Now there's a job to have. They can almost say what they want and the weather just might come close. I guess they do pretty well. The second was a financial forecast where they said the Aussie dollar was going to continue to do well. He could be right.

Want a forecast that you can rely upon? It's in the Bible. As a matter of fact, it's all through the Bible. God knows what you will be facing tomorrow and into the future. His promises about the future are the most reliable forecasts you'll ever come across...and they're delivered with love.

Y2O

That stands for Year Two Officers, which is to say those who have now been on the field for two years. We met with God today for a few minutes and shared in some important moments. One of the mates spoke of the significance of his ministry and his deep deep hopes to even be used more strategically. He ministered to us all. I'm glad I was there.

We've got to be passionate about our role in the Kingdom of God. It isn't a casual stroll in the park. It is life and death. Yes, let's be alive and measure the over arching importance of our witness and ministries. God is with us and will guide us in our efforts in His name. Let's not hold back, but go for it. Hallelujah!

Technology

Increasingly, we are relying on technology and it is at the very least interesting. Often we are encouraged to take a technological route in order to save time, minimise effort, and keep our interest active. It certainly fits with the attention deficit world in which we live...or is it a cause?

So the technology assists us in communicating the gospel in incredible ways both in content and in overall exposure. We can reach so many more and in so many mediums. Hallelujah!

The message, however, is to a human heart from a divine heart. The technology is reduced to an instrument or vehicle by which the gospel can be shared. Use it for the glory of God. Explore the many new possibilities offered to us technologically. Know that it is a message of the heart to the heart.

Retirement

Retirement for officers is not exactly what the term conveys. You don't retire from active service. You don't retire from officership. I see retirement as a gift to faithful officers who are freed to pursue the service of God on their own terms and to balance the later years with appropriate personal levels of effort.

The retired officers are a valuable asset in the territory. On a regular basis, they soldier with integrity and are available to fill in for officer roles when the need presents itself. They are great Salvos. Hallelujah!

Next time you see a retired officer, tell them how much we need them and how we thank God for them.

Women and Ministry

We are regularly reminded of the role of women in TSA. There is no question as to their importance. Keep this in mind as we go forward. This is not an area in which we can afford to go back on. Hallelujah!

I'm very interested in ministry to women as well. We need more women in TSA to reach more women for Christ. We need women of all ages and we need to be strategic in our efforts to minister appropriately. I'm certain that we should take the lead from women as to how to most effectively attract and serve women.

Let us celebrate the incredible role women have had and are having in the movement.

St. Kilda Crisis Centre

The services at the St. Kilda Crisis Centre are straight out of the Salvo 101 manual. I'm not saying that they're basic courses in Salvoism, but rather right on the mark of incredible social programmes that reach out to the "least, the last, and the lost." I sensed their heart and compassion for the many people who need their services.

I met Ms. Jenny Plant and her professional team that are strong and competent. I have confidence in each of them from what they told me today about their ministries. Tonight I'm praying for them as the people they help need great support and they need Christ. The recidivism and long term addictions can be conquered through the grace of God. Hallelujah!

Thank you friends for your faithfulness. God is using you to His glory.

Training College

The Training College is on track. Have you spoken to one of our Cadets lately? They're doing great and witnessing to the powerful love of God in their lives and in the Training College. That in itself is the best way to evaluate the Training College.

Now look around the territory and see the evidence of a good Training College through the years. We have officers who are faithfully serving Christ with their whole lives and who are making a huge difference in the world. As a territory, we are very blessed.

Listening to God

How is it that you hear God? He communicates with us on a regular basis. This is an amazing reality. The Lord of all speaks to us, saved and unsaved. I suppose the message isn't so different. It is a message of love and encouragement.

I heard Him tell me to trust Him today and to keep listening. When I think of the reality of our relationship, my heart thrills. He speaks of hope and holiness. He reminds me of forgiveness and peace for my soul no matter the challenge. He knows how to reach me and only requires that I am looking to Him.

Our relationship with God can be as vibrant as we're willing to accept. Our answer to His call is "yes."

Freeway Community Church

Majors Kay and Darryl Robinson have a vision for the Kingdom of God. It includes the people of the Freeway Community Church and the people who will come to the Freeway Community Church. You can hear the passion in their voices. Their associates share the vision. Everything they do points to the vision. It's very exciting.

On their journey, we shared in worship last night where the Holy Spirit spoke to us all and some in the room invited Jesus into their hearts. Hallelujah!

In the journey of our mission, God will always show us miracles and give us reasons to rejoice. Stay tuned to Him and watch for His glory.

Floreat, Western Australia

This photo is of Captains Savage in front of the Floreat Corps building in Western Australia. We joined them Sunday morning for worship and were blessed to belief. It's a full feature corps with good Band and Songster sections as well as a worship band.

In the course of the meeting we participated in the enrolment of a Junior Soldier and two Senior Soldiers. Each of them encouraged us as we witnessed their commitment to Christ in this way.

Perth is showing us a lot. The Floreat Corps is a superb expression of Salvationism. Hallelujah!

Genesis 1

We celebrated the first anniversary of the Genesis programme in Perth today. It continues to show its value to the homeless of Perth and the Kingdom of God. Captain Colin Eldridge and his team are sensational in their compassion and service to their people. They are more than convincing. They're compelling.

Genesis is The Salvation Army. People are being saved and people are being supported. They feed 150 or so on a daily basis. Medical care is provided. Employment Plus staff come to help in their field. All different types of services are rendered and God is honoured. Hallelujah!

Stop by when you're in Perth and be prepared to lend a hand in the name of Christ.

Kalgoorlie, Western Australia

Moving due East from Perth in Western Australia, we come to Kalgoorlie and Boulder. In these communities, TSA is beautifully missional with a corps, Men's Hostel, Youth Crisis Accommodation Centre, two Op Shops and plenty of other services that are needed and valued here. Captain Lynn Jones is the corps officer in this mining city of approximately 30,000. She is supported by a capable professional staff and helpers of all sorts.

We were able to meet with quite a few of our supporters at the corps for afternoon tea. (Australia is a civilised country) Each one gave witness to the compelling gospel that comes from Captain Jones. Hallelujah!

Our salute today goes to the whole team here in Kalgoorlie. Coming this way for employment? There's a good Army awaiting you.

Karratha, Western Australia

As the northernmost corps of the Western Australia Division, it was a thrill to get here and see what God is doing. Under the leadership of Captains Cymon and Naava Brooks, the corps mission is in tact and greatly appreciated by the community. Majors Trainor and us met with community leaders on the occasion of our visit. It was worth every minute.

Karratha should be on our prayer lists. The challenges are unique and the remoteness of the appointment creates its own difficulties. The Brooks are doing fine and deserve our commendation. The gospel is being communicated every day in different ways. Hallelujah!

27 so we could seek after God, and not just grope around in the dark but actually find him. He doesn't play hide-and-seek with us. He's not remote; he's near.

Trusting God Today

The level of our trust is directly proportional to our confidence in God's capacity. It seems to me that a person can say they trust God, but until they do, they don't. How big is God to you? Measure your faith and you'll have an indication.

We've had a few moments in our life when we trusted God and the results weren't what we had hoped. Notice I haven't written that the results of our hopes speak to our depth of faith. Our faith is shallow if we are sidetracked by our disappointment at the outcomes. Now let's trust God who loves us with abundance, not for what we get but for who He is.

Planning

After the vision comes the plan. What are your plans? Long life? Family? Never get married? Move to another country? Never leave your home town?

We develop plans for all sorts of things. We plan to get groceries or go to the movies. We plan to get an education or a job. Part of the thrill in life is the plan.

How about the proud owner of the lottery ticket before the drawing? Big plans...millions of plans...Buy a house...take a long vacation...a new car? Every lottery ticket owner has plans alright.

Just make sure your plans include the plan of God. There is no better way or destination. It'll involve love, courage and risks. Sounds exciting...it is.

Candidates' Weekend

At the famous Geelong Conference Centre, the Territorial Candidates' Weekend took place and culminated today with worship and commitment. Majors Len and Marney Turner, Territorial Candidates' Secretaries designed a significant opportunity for the Spirit of God to minister to us and many others in the name of Christ. Hallelujah!

We need as many Candidates as possible to do the work. We have immediate openings and are looking to God for His direction and provisions. We are claiming His grace for these days and believing for His presence in what He is asking us to do. I would be blessed to welcome a large session of Cadets going forward. Is God speaking to you?

Sports

Occasionally, you'll hear that "sports is their religion." I understand the comment and realise it refers to the intensity and dedication some have for sports. I find sports to be something of a distraction from the serious. I can get into a game and even be known to read the sports page first sometimes before the front page.

To some, sports is life. An athlete recently welcomed to the LA area earns in the neighborhood of $1 million a week for his sport. If he's earning that much, imagine what the owners are earning. I think that represents serious business, but not a religion.

In contrast, some make sport of their religion. This is a serious problem. Let's not play games with our faith or put faith in our games. Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

Excitement

Ready for action? We need to be. God is moving among us and creating opportunities right in front of us. Look up and see Him. He's looking at you and hoping for your interest. He pursues you with relentless hope and dispenses everything we need to actualise His perfect ideas for us.

The way for our perfect journey is prepared and accessible by the most powerful entity in the universe: love. It is designed with you in mind and will fill you with the most thrilling and compelling spirit you have ever known. Experience the joy. Approach the keeper of eternity and get ready for the excitement.

The Government

In many places and among many services we work with the government. This relates to Federal, State and Local Government. This relationship is best defined as a partnership which is an attempt to serve the community by improving the lives and environments of individuals and families. This type of connection is common around the world.

What we need is a real partnership. This is not defined as simply being participants and is most severely reduced when it is only a contractual relationship. We serve best when our full effort is in play and when we can connect the service to a holistic approach through multiple service points. It's not just a job. It's a holy ministry, marked by the same discipline as if we were serving God.

It's possible to make this work. We do need to have mutual intentionality.

Trusting Jesus

As the moments fly...what'ere befall...trusting Jesus...that is all. It seems uncomplicated and not so hard. We've got no reason for pride or personal trumpet blowing. We simply trust Jesus and joy flows. We trust Jesus and hope is amplified. We trust Jesus and difficulty transforms to solutions.

Don't you see it? Don't you experience it? Those who know Christ in their souls know what I'm writing about. It's about miracles and unexplained peace of mind. It's about light where others are having trouble seeing through the dark. It's Jesus. It's always been about Jesus. It will always be about Jesus. Hallelujah!

Dialogue

In our activist SA, we often want to charge out and do something when it comes to mind. This is my nature. I have learned that dialogue helps. Even a passing reference to your intentions with another person can elicit a response that might change the nature of your action for the better. I admit that I find extended dialogue on a subject that is going no where, painful. Here's where I need to be more disciplined.

The real dialogue we need in every effort is with the Lord. Even if we do not include another person in our process, we must include Him. The Scriptures indicate that "faith without works is dead." That is radically true. I also practice that works without faith is a waste of time.

Office Altar

So sometime in the middle of the day when I returned to my office I found an altar there, quite unexpectedly. I believe it is one made by the one of the Brunswick Community Programmes for Connections 07. Before you know it a meeting occurred in the office and we concluded by meeting around the altar on our knees. I figure, God sends you an altar, you better use it! Hallelujah!

What has God put in your world today? Something new or unexpected? It may well be something He wants you to use for His glory. Look around. Consider the possibilities. See what God is doing in your life and what He wants to do.

Mountain View

The corps at Mountain View has existed for over 13 years. It's located in The Basin, Victoria. Captains Jeff and Kathy Vale are there with a cadre of good local officers and supporters.

We were there for the dedication of their renovations to the Mountain Valley Camp chapel which they are using to host their Sunday meetings. Today's meeting was great and the Captain preached a good sermon.

For those of you who have attended the Mountain Valley Camp at one time or another, you might want to stop in on a Sunday to see how God is still using the place. You're bound to be blessed.

Homecoming

Often this is an expression of a reunion or even a part of an anniversary celebration. For us it's a fact. We're coming home to Australia and are on our way. Hallelujah!

Capable team members and associates have covered for us in the days of our absence. Thank you each for your faithfulness.

Ready or not, here we come. We have much to do and more people to reach for the glory of God.

Beautiful Day

Today is a beautiful day. The weather where I am is warm and mild, the sun is shining and we are enjoying the company of loved ones. What's not beautiful?

Also today it is raining somewhere, people have lost loved ones, jobs terminated, illnesses have been discovered and worse. Some days are better than other days. It depends upon our perspective and our circumstances.

I believe in not accepting the 'fate de jour'. That is, we have much to do with the beauty of the day. Some days will be rotten, no doubt, but not because God has abandoned us. His love is constant throughout the good and the not so good. Trust Him and know Him to be true.
