Essential to the destination is the journey. I'd say that the journey is the essence of the destination. The objective isn't as much to arrive as it is to experience the journey in the process of getting there.

Take a deep breath
Watching some of the Olympics reminds me of how important disciplined breathing is to the competitors. Sometimes in the ministry we need to take a deep (cleansing) breath to enable oxygen to do its thing in our brains. When we do, clear heads can be a constructive outcome.
Having an issue with a fellow believer? Is it taking on larger than life proportions? Take a deep breath, commit the person to the Lord and move on. Hallelujah!

Helping God
Is it really possible to help God? Considering His capacity and awareness, what kind of help would He need?
Truly, God needs you. First of all, He desires to know you and that you would love Him as He loves you. In that sense, He needs you. Secondly, in the context of our relationship with choice, we can be instrumental in serving Him to open up ways for others to have a loving relationship with Him. How are our friends and family going to know Him apart from how they see Him in us? Isn't that why you responded to His love in the first place?

Looking for Love
How about the song,"Looking for love in all the wrong places?" Here's an idea that translates to one's faith. People are simply looking for love in the wrong places. There looking to relationships that by definition are unholy and with people who are unholy. Many look for the storybook version of love or the "chick flic" version. Many people are deeply looking for love but trying to find it in unlovely ways. God help them.
You'll find true love in God through Christ. As it is clearly stated in the Bible, God loved us first and showed His love by allowing Jesus to take the punishment for our disobedience. "Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for a friend." Seek God and you will find eternal, life-giving love.

Sharing the Love
Have you heard the expression, "If you're not with the one you love, love the one you're with?" Now, in its original context, it's off base and wrong. In the context of God's love, it actually makes redeeming sense.
We should be sharing the love of God with those we are with. As we plan to win the world for Jesus, we can often overlook our closest neighbours. The preacher cannot step over her or his family to reach the congregation. it doesn't make sense.
Right where you are today, reach out to the closest person in the love of Christ. The person will be glad you did.

Be Cautious
As the territory moves forward in the name of God, I get a strong sense that in a number of areas, we need to be cautious. Because we are stepping out in faith, there is the present storm that is confronting us with the real potential to distract us in the process. Don't let it happen.
Faith is a most positive approach to life. Where there is negativity (not to be mistaken by reality), there is diminishing faith. Watch for it and know that could threaten the good work in Christ you are doing.
Take every confidence in God. Know that Christ has already won the victory over evil. Avoid being blindsided by the possibilities of failure. Following God will always lead you right.

Getting Ready

Perhaps she was getting ready. The Boy Scouts remind us to "Be prepared."
We study. We warm up. Some put on make up. We clean the house especially if company is coming. We launder and press our clothes. Much of our life is spent in preparation.
All the while, God is preparing you and me for eternity in His presence. How is he preparing you?

Following God
In an age that focuses on leadership so intently, I want to suggest we consider the most important aspect of determining which leader to follow. Follow the one that's following Jesus. You can tell by how the person walks and talks. Does the leader resemble Jesus? Can you imagine the leader in Jesus' shoes?
This requires your knowledge of who Jesus is and your awareness of that which is important to Him. Once you've settled on the answers to these questions, you'll be in a position to determine the veracity of the leader who follows Jesus.

National Brengle Institute
Is it possible that Brengle could have known his influence on the future of TSA? There are Brengle Institutes taking place all over the globe for officers, soldiers, youth and more. Here in Australia, we conduct a National Brengle Institute for officers. It began tonight at the Geelong Conference Centre. Organised jointly by the Training Colleges of Australia, it will be a wonderful experience for all involved.

Opinions
It's amazing to me in a conversation, how quickly a person will be to offer an opinion. Truly, we're under no compulsion to even have an opinion on every subject known to man. I am amused when a few close friends refuse to get into Footy talk at all. They exercise good sense in simply saying how the subject doesn't interest them.
There are some subjects we should weigh in on, but let us remember that our opinions aren't necessarily the word of God. Where we can clearly reveal the truths of the gospel in conversation, we should. Where it's not so clear, we need to be certain that we balance our thinking as opinion. We might be right, and then again...

Love4 Mission 08
The weekend concluded with a day of rejoicing before God. The themes today were Love Life, Love God and Love Others. The morniong meeting, particularly was a multi-cultural worship service with African and Aboriginal Choral groups. God blessed us all throughout the meeting. Hallelujah!

Northern Territory

Opening Night
The first night of Love4 in the Northern Territory went well. Great singing was led by Captain Danielle Strickland and good interviews were conducted by Majors John and Wendy Freind. Carolyn spoke and brought us each to a keynote focus.

Darwin
Darwin is a very special place. Today, the weather is absolutely beautiful and we're anticipating a great experience this weekend at the Army. Love4Mission08 will be underway tomorrow night at the Darwin Corps.

Questions
Honest questions deserve honest answers. The questions in themselves do not need to denote disagreement, only clarification. A good question can focus a reality and quicken a right response.
When it comes to questions about our faith, we shouldn't simply discount the questioner as the opposition, but rather as a seeker of the truth. There were many in the Word who approached Jesus with questions. He respected them and pointed them to God. May we be so faithful.

Kids
I purposely don't refer to children by name on the internet. We need to protect our children from harm that can come by virtue of too much information available. The internet is a powerful weapon in the hands of evil people.
What I'd like to draw attention to are kids in general who need our faithful support, guidance and encouragement. I'd like to see us reach out to more kids in the name of Christ. Our history shows that when we do, they often bring their families to the Lord as well. Let us do what we can to increase our ministry to kids. They need Christ.

Staff Songsters
The two Australian staff songster brigades joined together tonight at the Waverley Temple Corps. It was beautiful music all night. The Melbourne Staff Songsters are in their 21st season and the Sydney Staff Songsters, their twentieth. Both groups were sensational.
God is glorified by the holy singing of musicians to His delight. At points the whole audience sang along and praised God accordingly. Hallelujah, what a night!

Satisfaction
What is it that gives you satisfaction? How about a job completed and well done? Helping a friend? How about a stranger? There can be satisfaction in many things we do or even say. Generally, satisfaction follows a challenge.
Do you think God is satisfied with you? I'm not suggesting that you're a challenge or that He is finished with you. I believe He would be satisfied with us when we represent Him in holiness and in humble service. I believe He is satisfied with us when we worship Him in spirit and in truth. If He's satisfied, we can be satisfied. Hallelujah!

24/7 Prayer II
On this the 24th day of the seventh month, the Australia Southern Territory has launched into it's second year of 24/7 prayer. The gathering in the chapel at THQ was appropriate and appreciated. Major Lorraine Hart led us and we're on to year two.
I am convinced that this prayer movement throughout the territory is the most significant step towards honouring God in many years. We are clearly drawing closer to God and depending upon Him as we should. This makes us know Him better and the closer we get, the purer we must be. Hallelujah!

MCD
This stands for the Melbourne Central Division. This morning we shared in the time of their Officers' Fellowship at the Geelong Conference Centre. They had been in meetings for a few days before we arrived and were in a great frame of reference by the time we came.
Majors Rodney and Jenny Barnard are the divisional leaders who care deeply for their people and prepare carefully in their ministry. Today's theme was "a life gained by giving." We thoroughly enjoyed being with them all and praise God for the blessings.

Investing
With the stock market all over the place and global economies awry, investing is a complex matter. In today's 'Army', it is an important aspect of our administration. being good stewards today means possessing investment savvy and good pecuniary support.
More importantly, we invest in people too. These investments speak to the confidence and encouragement we give to the people who make up the 'Army.' We trust and entrust them with responsibilities both in social programme centres and corps. They're worth it and they return extraordinary grace and blessings among us. Hallelujah1

Noarlunga
One of our corps deeply committed to prayer is the Noarlunga, South Australia Corps. Captains Robert and Vanessa Evans are the Corps Leaders with Envoy Mark Grant as an assistant. The corps, of course has local leaders that are intrinsically a part of this prayer movement as well.
In the community, the corps has established a 24/7 prayer room, accessible to several churches and individuals in order to seek the Lord in prayer. The corps has gone beyond my imagination in establishing this special prayer room. God is being glorified. Hallelujah!

Ingle Farm Corps
Having just completed their week of 24/7 prayer, Carolyn and I immediately sensed the sweet presence of God in the chapel this morning. The Holy Spirit moved among His children, healing, helping and holding...just what people needed. Hallelujah!
Captains Paul and Wendy Hately are leading a formidable force of Salvationists in this extraordinary fellowship. The music was first class and the interest very high. The services connected to the corps are connected to the corps. This is a beautiful example of how it's supposed to work. God bless you.

Linsell Lodge
The new Linsell Lodge is a credit to the good name of Brigadier Cecil Linsell, TSA, and the Lord. With civic leaders present as well as a host of celebrants that included many in the Linsell family, the facility was dedicated to God.
Congratulations to the South Australia Division and all who have worked so hard to make this a first class facility for Aged Care. It has a current capacity of 90 residents and there are many extras in the buildings for the residents to enjoy their days in comfort, safety, and a Christian environment. This new complex, of course, replaces the former location on Whitmore Square.

God's Holiness
The Scriptures declare the holiness of God. He is the purest of pure; the brightest of bright; the lovliest of the lovely; the truest of the true; the most faithful of the faithful; the most blessed of the blessed. When we look to Him we know what is right and worthy and hopeful and graceful. Hallelujah!
He shares His holiness as He shares His love. You and I can be holy people by reflecting His holiness in our lives. It is even God's plan...just amazing.

God's Touch
God not only has feelings, He has touch as well. Have you felt His touch? I certainly have. He has touched my life with healing and forgiveness and deep love. I've never been the same since. Hallelujah!
The Word says about His touch that He will not break a bruised reed or quench a smoking flax. That's sensitivity. When He touched the blind man, sight was given. When He touched the leper, healing was dispensed. When He touched Peter's mother in law, the fever left her.
Now imagine His touch on your life. Get ready for a good change. Yes!

Heart of God
God's heart is larger than we think. He has a capacity that exceeds the universe. He loves His beloved and His love extends to those who hate Him. He loves those who are determined to discredit Him and those who who hurt others. We may have difficulty in understanding His love fully. Our limitations are significant.
This is why I can write with confidence that God loves you. He knows you and loves you. Perhaps because of your circumstances, you think He has no regard for you. Have you measured that because your deepest desire has not been met or you have a significant disappointment in your life that you think God should not have allowed? Re-think it and recognise that this is one relationship not based upon what you get out of it. Love requires more than that.

God Speaks
The written Word of God allows us to hear the voice of God. He has spoken through the ages with confidence, passion and love. He spoke and the worlds were created. He brought you and me into existence with the life of His breath.
This is why we long to be with Him and why our soul pants to just hear His voice. We are connected by divine design and why we are at a loss when we are separated. Let the whole world hear His voice. Let them tune in to the sweetness of His acceptance and forgiveness. He desires that we choose Him and recognise Him as our loving Creator. Hallelujah!

They focus on the authentic words of life in the Bible. There is no greater source to understand the grace and love of God. I'd suggest you use a current mainstream translation that will not only guide you to truth, but the Truth: Jesus.

Learning to Lean
We used to sing a chorus that went like this:

This is a good posture for all of us. We attempt to be so self sufficient and independent. It isn't necessary or even God's plan. As a loving parent, He wants us to lean on Him. He's dependable.

Balance

Souls n Justice
So was the name of an inspirational event at the 614 New Life Centre in Melbourne. Great music, great preaching and a great opportunity to focus on God and natural outcomes - social justice.

Good Music
Don't you just love good music? Sure, we consider different music as good, but just the same, regardless of the style, it can affect us positively.
I love to put on music on a long drive and most days, I have music playing while I work. For me, the music changes depending what I'm doing. You might hear brass, gospel, instrumental, voice, all types.

Friends
A friend stopped by today for lunch. He was in my diary and I was expecting a discussion on something that was on his mind. Imagine my surprise when he simply indicated that he didn't have a concern for me, but rather, only thought it might be good to just have lunch. You'd never guess what mindless subject we talked about.
Can I recommend that to you in your busy life? Just have lunch. Sure, we want to maximise our lives. Who says just having lunch doesn't do that? When you do, do it in remembrance of Jesus.

Rochester is moving on
After these 120 years, the Rochester Corps is moving on. Celebrating a rich history and a God-honouring present, it is clear they plan to go forward in the name of Christ. Based upon what we witnessed this weekend, they're ready and willing. Hallelujah!
Isn't today as important for every corps? Do we need an anniversary to stimulate our courage and hope for tomorrow? I'm sure you're getting the point. So what about your corps and what about you? Looking for the moment to move in God's direction? I see that moment as now. God's ready.

Rochester, Victoria 120th Anniversary
For 60 years, TSA in Rochester served from this corps hall. Altogether, the corps has functioned effectively for 120 years. To celebrate their anniversary, Majors Graham and Julie Moyle have invited the music forces from the Ringwood Citadel Corps in Melbourne.The programme tonight was terrific as 10% of the population of Rochester joined us to glorify God. The meetings tonight and tomorrow are being held in the shire hall. The building above is no longer in use as the corps and the new corps building is a little small for such a big celebration. Thank you all for your work in proving the faithfulness of God for over 120 years.

4th of July
Independence Day in America has arrived again and is a reminder of the country's independence. As the expression goes, freedom isn't free. I wonder if we reconsidered the war of independence in today's terms, if we would have resisted. As I understand it, there were those who spoke out against the military effort.
I suppose there's no point in second guessing it. It's done and a part of the reality of today.
Salvation is freedom from the real enemy of our souls. It too isn't free. Christ paid for all of us. It's not open for debate. It's what He has done out of love. What's open for consideration is those who would value His gift and accept His love for themselves. When you do, you'll be freer than any country in history. I suggest you go for it.

Grandparents
I'm discovering that the world needs grandparents. Oh, my own grandparents were terrific and very badly needed. Now I'm seeing it from the other side of life. Just like parenthood, I'm delightfully blessed with being a grandparent. It's a part of me that can't be squashed or denied. Ha!
Now we know that God has no grandchildren. When we realise our love relationship with Him, we begin to understand we are His children. Our kids can't inherit our faith. They don't need to. That's a good thing, because sometimes, our witness just isn't up to the grace of God. We can and must show the way to Christ. It is their blessed choice to love and follow Him. Bless the Lord.

CEDA
The Committee for Economic Development of Australia represents a high level group of business and community leaders. This morning in Adelaide we were in attendance with the Premier of South Australia where he and I were given the opportunity to address the crowd. Premier Mike Rann spoke extremely well on the subject of social inclusion and is serving his state and the country well in his role in this regard.
We have a great Salvation Army in South Australia with great leaders, great Advisory Board and an incredible opportunity to serve God by serving people. God wants us all to come together to make a difference in this world. He believes in social inclusion.

Budgets
Every good business works with budgets. We at TSA are no exception. We have budgets within budgets and then complimenting budgets that connect our operations throughout.
A budget is a plan. There are few plans as specific as a budget. At what point do we exercise our faith in the plan known as a budget? Do you imagine that a faith-loaded budget might be a financial problem?
I believe that a faith focused budget is a practical expression of our Christian journey, grounded in reality, but influenced by divine possibilities. It's one of those holy tensions that define our stewardship of pecuniary resources. Hallelujah!

Boundless Salvation Launch
The four DVD set is now available and will be coming soon to a corps near you. They represent the Boundless Salvation of God in the early days of the Army right to the present. They focus upon History, Doctrine, Culture and Mission. Congratulations to Mr. John Cleary and his team for such an historic opportunity in our movement. The setting tonight was at the 614 New Life Centre in Melbourne. This is the exact location of the first movie company in Australia: the Limelight Brigade of The Salvation Army.
I'm very proud for this group of dedicated historians and videographers. They have produced and excellent work complete with a study guide. Thank you each for your good work in the name of Christ.

Overwork
It is possible to overwork. We use the term workaholic when a person seems to make work their life. Some are defined by their work.
I do believe that a strong work ethic is a constructive thing, but there is a limit. Some people suffer burn-out as a result of the stress of work. The effects can be debilitating. We do need to find a balance in life that will support the balance of our thinking and actions.
Let's be prepared to die for God, but not kill ourselves in the process.

Young Adults
I'm not sure if the twenty-somethings appreciate the term, young adults. Labels, generally don't work completely. I enjoyed brekkie with a good group of such individuals this morning from the Melbourne Central Division. They are terrific and we enjoyed dialogue on many different subjects. It was amazing how quickly we entered into some deep discussion, over breakfast.
I'm convinced that God is anointing a new wave of young adults for the mission of His Kingdom. We're seeing them here, there and everywhere. Hallelujah!

Drought Relief Trailer
Not unlike the 614 Bus that visits the neighbourhoods of homeless youth, we now have a specially designed trailer (and cab) to reach out to drought affected communities and their children and youth. It is the result of a close relationship between TSA and the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria. Mr. John Isaac, president of RACV was present for the dedication today, along with many Northern Victorians. It was a joy to watch the children and youth enter the trailer for the first time and take advantage of the equipment and space.
Congratulations to all, especially Major Lyn Cochrane, our Territorial Drought Relief Coordinator. Job well done.

Northern Victoria Division 3
The Annual Review of the Northern Victoria Division has revealed the movement of God among us. In undeniable terms He is showing His love and leadership of the Army in this great area of ministry.
Among many other indicators, it is a delight to see that Sunday morning meeting attendances are at a ten year high and soldierships are up as well. Hallelujah!

Life blood
Flowing through your veins and arteries is your life blood. I choose to express it as life blood so as to emphasize the nature of blood. It contains and sustains life. Without it we're lost. When it is tainted, we're in trouble. It carries oxygen, nourishment healing and much more.
Jesus shed His blood for you, me, and everyone on the cross of calvary. His blood covers our sins and makes us right before God, who loves us and who judges us. Eternity is one of the realities in the balance based upon His provision and our hope and love in Him. This is life blood.

Ringwood Musicians
The Band and Songsters of the Ringwood Corps are supporting the Rochester, Victoria Corps to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of TSA in Rochester. Carolyn and I plan to be there as well. We joined in the music rehearsals tonight to share in devotions to prepare for the trip.
The Spirit of God is prevalent in the members of the group who will undoubtedly minister effectively to fellow Salvos and others. I'm looking forward to a powerful time of fellowship, music and the presence of God. Hallelujah!

Goin' through the hoops
The Salvation Army basketball programme (SABAV) enjoyed their championship games tonight. We were there for much of it and enjoyed every minute. Congratulations on all who participated.
The essence of a good team is the team itself. Basketball is helped by an individual's effort, but a good team will always succeed beyond the individual.
Why not team up to bring others to Christ? Although not a game, there's a principle here that just might help.

Preston Corps
With holy precision, the Preston Corps has begun a series on what has become known as "the Dream." The dream was published as a book in the territory called, "One Day, a vision for the Australia Southern Territory." I was able to give a little more background on the vision statements contained in the work.
The 33 Salvos who contributed to the book ably expanded each vision statement with clarity and ownership in each of the chapters. That's a job well done. Hallelujah!

Can we at least understand the right order if we are in relationships with the opposite gender?

Melbourne College of Divinity
The Training College is a part of the Melbourne College of Divinity. It is this good academic body that supervises our accreditation. We have a valuable and God honouring relationship.
The standards at the Training College are also monitored by TSA in many forms and practices. I believe our school is a great programme and is a credit to God, TSA and the territory. The best test of the Training College is the standard of our officers, commissioned to service as a result of the ministry of the Training College.
I salute all of our officers and staff at the Training College and those supporters in the Melbourne College of Divinity. Hallelujah!

Gratitude to God
This is a perfect day to thank God. You can do it in many ways. You can speak with Him in prayer. You can thank Him by serving Him. You can thank Him by worshiping Him. You can thank Him all day and anywhere.

SAGALA
For the uninformed, SAGALA stands for Salvation Army Group and Legion Activities. They are minimally active in the territory, but quite valuable where they are active. Major Mim Adams is the territorial representative of these programmes. Today's SAGALA is contemporary, exciting and worth checking out. Why not do so? I'm told it's becoming a great transition for children growing out of Mainly Music.
Our children deserve this kind of attention. Don't be quick to apply your memory of these programmes in the past discourage you from looking into them today.

John Cleary
Salvationist radio host, John Cleary spoke to the Wider Cabinet today with clarity and authenticity. He challenged us with a historic perspective on our beloved Army, its impact on today and tomorrow. In many ways it's a wake up call that's critically needed as we consider the way forward in the territory.

Worship the Lord
Colonel Robert Redhead addressed the Wider Cabinet today on the subject of worship. He reminded us of our joys and responsibilities in worshiping God. His subject matter is flawless and his demeanor was thoroughly convincing.
In all, we learn that worship is a matter of the heart. Undoubtedly, this is the proper point of approach to God in worship. I'm glad. All of us can qualify and worship God in spirit and in truth. Hallelujah!

Envoys
With the transition of the Lieutenants rank, we have increased our population of Envoys in the territory. Many of them came this weekend to the Geelong Conference Centre for a retreat and reorientation opportunity. Each of them are beautifully committed and serving full on in officer appointments. With the continuing shortage of officers, we wouldn't be doing nearly as well without them. This is, without question, a good form of service by great people.

CSM Tony Foster
The Corps Sargent Major of the Hobart, Tasmania Corps is Tony Foster. Since we've been in the territory and going to Tasmania, we are regularly blessed by the Tony's faithful service and constant witness. His example of Salvationism is exemplary and Christlike. Officers Fellowship
There's much to be said for Officers Fellowships. We've enjoyed our time with the officers of the Western Australia Division. We've prayed together, praised God together, and read His Word together. It's been worth every minute.
All of us need the fellowship of believers. It's here that we can enjoy the presence of God and celebrate His love in comparable ways. God not only draws us together, He draws us close to Him. I recommend the getting together.

Western Australia
As a part of the Australia Southern Territory, the state division of Western Australia is quite remarkable. The people here, love it here and it's not hard to see why. It's just beautiful.
The SA is just as special. There's a friendliness here that is most desirable and Christlike. God is being honoured here by faithful servants who worship the Lord with joy and perseverance. Hallelujah!

The Word of God
The Bible is the written Word of God. It is here where we learn the love of God, His ways and our joys in following Him. We can read accounts of His interaction with His creation and the careful way in which He provides for us.
We learn of Jesus and His death on the cross of Calvary, We observe the discovery of His resurrection and the value it has for each of us who believe.
In the Word we begin to understand our role in His plan and how He has prepared a place for us in eternity.
Read the Word. Study its contents and learn to know the Creator. God will bless you as you do.

Perth Fortress
Thank you Holy Spirit for moving through the corps today at Perth Fortress. You spoke through the different parts of the meeting this morning and through Carolyn's message.

Always seeking God
Don't give up seeking God. Continue to check every aspect of your life in comparison to what God is saying. He never changes, nor does His word. Our lives are so dynamic that we tend to see things differently at different points in our lives.
There are some things I have held to firmly as a young man that have taken a turn in my understanding. Maturity and life's experiences in the context of a deeper relationship with God have shaped me.
Consider the different place of people in their journey when relating to them. Just maybe they're only getting to where you are or passed that point a while ago.
Hence, always seeking God is the way to Go.

Creative Ideas
I love it when things have just become commonplace and someone enters with a creative idea. Yes.
I think it takes a mind free from excessive anxiety and distraction to contribute in this way. Perhaps we should do what we can to free up our thinking for creative ideas. The subjects that need such support are unlimited...evangelism, mission integration, communicating grace...approaching a culture that prefers not to acknowledge the Lord...engaging a grieving family...leading a young life in the right direction...empowering a believer to act in faith...and more.
Jesus has always been a part of creation. He would be a great support in creating ideas.

Security
Around the world, security is at an all time high. The treachery and cowardice of terrorists who send even the innocent to prey upon the innocent has forced the civilised to guard themselves. For this reason, we are caused to sacrifice certain freedoms that have always been ours. They are led by the enemy of enemies who has no regard for life.
For those who are human in this battle, God has made a way for redemption. The way is more powerful than any explosive and more strategic than laser guidance. The way is close to God. The way is His Son who has paid the ultimate price for all of our freedom and is free to us for the believing. His name is Jesus. Only in Him will we be really secure.

Rugby League
And the Melbourne Storm is on top of the ladder. Tonight they won 46-0. We were there to validate the veracity of their performance. It's a good game and one that takes strength, intelligence and stamina.
Better than the game was who we went with. The game really was terrific, but the friends we were with made it a great night.It's always about the relationships. I thank God for my friends.

God's leading.
God's leading is a sentence and a complete thought. It means God is leading in this case. It's true. He is not static and cannot be described as non-influential. He always has affect, even though He will not break a bruised reed or stifle a smoking wick.
His leading is full of love and power and fulfillment. When you follow, so will joy and hope and excitement, as obvious as tin cans tied by strings on the back of a honeymoon car. Sounds great doesn't it?

Right decision
Making the right decision is often a great challenge. Once you get past the easy decisions, there are those where the right decision isn't absolutely clear. You know, where the choice is the best of the difficult or the least harmful?
We can get help from others and we can consult the Word of God, but some decisions are ours to make and just not found in the concordance to the Bible. Here's where staying close to God makes all the difference. Our relationship with Him will bring light to the circumstance and His truth will give us clarity to make the right decision. Enjoy it.

Not only is this a good plan, it is the name of a new CD released by the USA Southern Territory. It is in preparation of their Holiness Congress. Listening to it today, I'm blessed and impressed. The concept is right and the music right too.

Working it Through
Sometimes things need to be worked out. Conversation and dialogue are required to come to at least a consensus if not a solution. We can help by looking at the subject through the eyes of others and putting aside our differences.
The resolution is worth it and the open approach conveys respect to everyone involved. It is civilised and needed in this world. At least consider this perspective.

Red Shield Appeal
Today has been a particularly active day across Australia in TSA. Thousands of Salvos have gone door to door and street corner to street corner to receive the provision of God through generous Australians. The resources are used to improve the lives of over 1 million Australians in the course of the year. It is all worth it.

Spend time with those you love
As you can, spend time with those you love. It may sound simple and obvious, but there are times in our lives when we need such a reminder. Parents, don't let yourself be found to say, "I wish I had spent more time with my kids. They grew up too fast." Don't be found saying, "Now that my folks are gone, I should have taken more time to be with them."
There are other relationships that suffer simply because we don't get to it, or we don't do well to write letters or can't afford the calls. Measure the significance of your relationship and do what it takes to keep it alive. You'll be glad about it when you do.

Caring for People
We need to care for each other. Our relationships with others is our witness to the Holy Spirit within us. We glorify the Lord by such responsibilities.
Now this doesn't mean that we necessarily see things the same way as everybody else and there are moments when we have varying opinions. Is there a time for correction as well? Absolutely. Just read through the comments on this blog. Friends are trying their best to keep me on the straight and narrow.
Even when this is needed, caring for each other is helpful by both parties. It isn't always easy. Let's give it our best.

Welcome Home MSB
The Melbourne Staff Band returned home to THQ officially last night for their regular weekly rehearsal. Although I don't know how long they've been rehearsing elsewhere, they sounded great in the new band room or music room, as they share it with the MSS. Complete for the rehearsal was the visit of Bandmaster emeritus, Colin Woods, B/M Ken Waterworth (on leave) and guest conductor, Lt. Colonel Robert Redhead. For the record, the first piece the band played in the room was Reflections in Nature by Robert Redhead. It'll become a trivia question.
Let the record reveal that the MSB is important to the territory and to the Kingdom of God. The witness of their music reaches much further than the walls of their concert halls. Hallelujah!

NATSICA Launch
The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Christian Alliance was launched today in Canberra. They represent Christian Aboriginals in Australia. We are greatly impressed with the individuals and churches involved in this alliance and believe that their efforts will be productive for all Australians, in particular, Aboriginals.
The Salvation Army is connected to the alliance in these early days and celebrates the launch and expectations of NATSICA. I believe we will make progress with this initiative and that God will bless what they will do in His name.

We each used to independently call our own shots, but then we entered into a large and integrated life in which he has the final say in everything. (This is what we proclaimed in word and action when we were baptized.) Each of us is now a part of his resurrection body, refreshed and sustained at one fountain—his Spirit—where we all come to drink. The old labels we once used to identify ourselves—labels like Jew or Greek, slave or free—are no longer useful. We need something larger, more comprehensive.

Business Community
In our focus on the least, the last, and the lost, remember that we have a responsibility to every person that God brings into our lives. This includes the business community, sales clerks, shop owners, night managers, business people, even CEO's.
The opportunities are endless...just like God's love. In each scenario we have a challenge to sort out the best approach and to seize the moment to the glory of God. Here's what I suggest:
1. be yourself - holy, transparent
2. depend on the Holy Spirit - He goes before you and travels with you.
3. convey the good news - in relevant, Biblical truth
4. ask for a response - trust and obey

Extra Help
Just when you've reached your extremes, God sends extra help. I believe He asks us to use what we have and when that is not enough, He steps in to prove His grace and help. We can count on Him.
What are you working on or are you near your goals? Be prepared for God to make it right. He's with you and knows not only our strengths but our weaknesses as well. Mix that with His awareness of our tomorrows and we need not be anxious about how to get through. We can, absolutely, trust Him. hallelujah!

Think of His love
Calmly, respectfully, faithfully, think of God's love. He created you for life filled with hope, joy and truth. This starts with our free choices. Love does not manipulate and God is love. The personal choice is incredibly important. Why did he put the one tree in the garden of Eden? All of us would be still in the garden, had he not, but it would have been as like puppets.
God love us too much to remove our choice to love Him. You don't have to love Him, but you should. His love is demonstrated in innumerable terms, beginning with the death of Christ on the cross. Can you think on these things? It will clear your mind and settle your heart. Hallelujah!

Adelaide Congress Hall Corps
In the history of the Australia Southern Territory, the ACH Corps has been a mainstay. They have proven the grace of God over and over through the years and are doing so today. Just now the corps is in pain over the promotion to glory of their corps officer, Major Cameron Wallace.
At the same time they are ministering to Cameron's family with deep love and understanding. The Celebration of his life service occurred today. The corps was present in full force. Let's continue in prayer for the Wallace family and the ACH Corps.

It takes all kinds of people to make up the Kingdom of God. He has chosen all different languages, personality types and nationalities to become His Kingdom. I'm grateful for His plan. We can enjoy the company of many people who love God and who seek Him for the best in their lives.

God Leads the Way
On our daily road, we can count on God. He leads the way. We can look to the left and to the right. We can consider the diversions and turns in the road. We can skip, run or jump. We can be on gravel, dirt or concrete. God desires to lead us with love.
Our job: follow.
It need not be complicated, confusing or cantankerous. He receives you where you are and takes you where you need to go. Follow His lead today.

RSA Launch
The Red Sheild Appeal launch occurred today in Melbourne. The AXA corporation sponsored the event which was terrific. Mr. Andy Penn from AXA represented his company and many others by his kind remarks and challenge for Victoria to partner with TSA in our endeavors to serve so many people. Mr. Bernie Brooks of Myer was present to celebrate the proceeds of their Christmas recording which generated over $200,000. The state of Victoria presented $60,000 as well.
These donations will go a long way to help many people. Across Australia we will help over 1,000,000 people this year. The costs will be in excess of $68 million. We have much to do to raise that kind of resource. Thank you each who are helping as you can.

Seeing God
While the heavens declare the glory of God, we are made in His image. We can see Him by looking into others around us. In Biblical context, that understanding pre-exists the salvation of the individual. This is to say that we can see the image of God in every person.
God walked into my office today in the person of a couple of people. Each showed me His love, creativity, ingenuity and concern. God's amazing. He keeps me focused on Him if I keep my eyes open for Him.
Look up. look out. Look for Him.

Major Cameron Wallace
God has called Major Cameron Wallace home to glory. We delight in his eternal reward and celebrate what we who know Christ as Saviour will enjoy one day. At the same time our hearts are broken over the loss of his presence to his wife and family. The Adelaide Congress Hall Corps too will find difficulty without him.
Let us be in prayer for these loved ones and in gratitude for the life and person of Cameron Wallace.

Heritage
Our history gives a guide to not only our future but the essence of who we are. In terms of TSA, we have much to live up to. In terms of an individual, it may not be as simple. God's transformation of the individual makes the person's history a contrast of dark to light.
The heritage of TSA is mostly beautiful and crafted by God. Although far from perfect, it survives blemishes and difficult chapters because it continues to work towards the glory of God. May we maintain this hope and redeeming approach to mission.

Wilma Gallet
On the first Sunday we conducted corps meetings in Australia, we met Wilma Gallet. A soldier of the Ferntree Gully Corps, she is the celebrated founder of Employment Plus and an exceptional Christian lady.
Among her many accomplishments in the fields of social programme, she wrote TSA's response to the National Youth Commission's report on youth homelessness in Australia. it's called Finding My Place and it is a quality booklet that describes the mission of TSA among youth in Australia. You can download it or acquire a copy at TSA.

Myanmar
Our friends in Myanmar are in need of our support. Prayers on their behalf will be valued. The death toll is incredible and rising. TSA is there and is serving on the ground in spite of major damage to SA facilities. Communication is difficult.

God Provides
In the flurry of life and in the day to day engagements, God provides.
In the complexities of our moods, uncertainties and joys, God provides.
The air we breathe...the sunlight that opens the day...the stars that sparkle...all validate that God provides.
He gives hope to the rejected, peace to the troubled, healing to the unwell, attention to the invisible, grace to the insecure, joy to the hurt, forgiveness to the penitent, understanding to the confused and love to all. That's just for starters.
God provides for you and me. Hallelujah!

Healthy Corps
This is an interesting concept that can serve our best intentions in glorifying God. When we measure such things, we must do so in a Biblical context with careful cultural appreciation. I suggest that a healthy corps is one that is paying attention to balance, growth, nourishment and applied faith. They can be small, medium, large or anywhere on any scale. They can be new, old or not so old. They can be urban, country or a mix.
Generally, a corps knows if it is healthy or at least where certain parts need attention. Acts 2:42 gives a good guide to healthy components.

Keeping the Faith
There are many temptations that will discourage and distract you from your faith. Be on your guard. What we call common sense can cause a shortage of faith as can intellectual assertion. How do we explain prayer apart from a relationship with a loving God?
The strength of our faith will enable us in moments of concern and hold us through the valleys in our lives. It's really God who is holding us, not faith in itself. Our choice...His grace. Hallelujah!

Encouragement
Here's an idea: be an encourager.
There are plenty who will put a person down or trim them down to size. Why not lift up someone? You might even find it refreshing.
Setting the record straight? The record doesn't need you...people do. You are better than that.

This territory is on track with social justice. Under the leadership of Captain Danielle Strickland, our efforts are multiplying to glorify God. From fair trade to human traffiking and everything in between, we're learning more and more how to better engage our people in these areas of ministry.

Northern Victoria Division
With four SA divisions, the state of Victoria boasts of a remarkable expression of Salvationism. In the northern part we have the Northern Victoria Division. Well established and currently under the leadership of Majors Graeme and Karen Rigley, this division is real Salvation Army. They are mission focused and solid. When you serve with them you find integrity, balance and holiness.
I thank God for who is there and what is happening in the name of Jesus. Hallelujah!
